UFCW stands for United Food and Commercial Workers. We are one of Canada's most experienced and respected unions. Our roots go back to 1899.
UFCW Canada today represents over 250,000 workers in more than 20 economic sectors. We are by far the largest Canadian union in the private sector retail and service industries. We are also one of the fastest-growing unions in the health care, manufacturing and hospitality sectors.
UFCW Canada has members in every Canadian province. In most provinces, we are the largest or one of the largest private sector unions.
We are Canada's "youngest" union. Nearly half of all UFCW Canada members are under 30. As well, the male-female ratio of UFCW Canada members is about 50-50.
Every year, more workers join UFCW Canada than any other private sector union.
Whether they are employed part-time or full-time, every UFCW Canada member is entitled to the same service and work-related assistance. All members are treated equally.
UFCW Canada is a democratic union. Members vote for their local union leaders, the bylaws that govern their locals, and their collective agreements.
More than 80% of all food products sold in Canadian retail food stores have been handled by UFCW Canada members, usually more than once.
